I could hear Ava singing a song outside at the top of her lungs, and when I looked out the window I realized it was a little tune she was making up about jumping "high enough to touch the roof." It looked awfully fun and she wanted me to join in, and so this day I did. There are some days when you realize what a treasure you have in a sunny day, a carefree girl and sweet little hands.
On a serious note, it was on this morning that all the devastation in Japan was unfolding. As I read and saw the images coming out of there, my heart was breaking over all of it, but especially as I read the accounts of parents clinging to the hands of their children when the tsunami hit and then losing their grip in the rushing water. I can't imagine a worse nightmare.
I feel so helpless here so far away. They are in our prayers every night. We pray that they will feel peace, that they will be comforted and the rescue efforts and rebuilding efforts will be as efficient and effective as possible.
