Making a List . . .

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am a list lover. There's my daily list:
-make bed & straighten room
-one load of laundry
-clear off table & straighten kitchen
-10 minutes in zone of day (flylady.net--great ideas for cleaning and organizing your home
)
-plan dinner
-kids chores listed
-10 minutes straightening before bed

I won't bore you with my monthly list, besides I rarely get all of that one done, so I don't want to be reminded.
Anywho, I started my Christmas lists awhile ago, but now that some of my kids can read, I have to be much more strategic. At first I was keeping them in my "book" since it is so convenient to have them available to me at all times. I wrote them down in the July weeks just to be sneaky and started my own secret code language.

For example, 1=Ashlyn for obvious reasons. And then I would just use the first letter of each thing like: 1. AGDB (Ashlyn wants an "American Girl Doll Book") or 2. MD (Cam wants a "moving dinosaur").
However, sometimes I stumped even myself. For example, 3. SBSB really threw me for a loop for quite awhile, but then I figured out it meant Andrew could really use a "sailboat sandbox". (See, I messed up my system by using the letter for each syllable instead of each word).

Besides spending too much time trying to figure out my codes, I also decided using my book was WAY too risky. After all, my book sometimes becomes Ashlyn's sketch pad . . . and children's deciphering skills can be surprisingly advanced.
So, I decided to just write it all out in plain english but hide my list. I'm not telling where.

But let me just say 5. SL (Jim needs some "sneakiness lessons") because I just had a Kitchenaid mixer delivered to my front door.

  1. that's too funny about the mixer. I've heard funny stories about kids opening up the front door and big box is on the porch with a pic of the on the front...perfect! Kids don't forget too unless they are mine and tiny still. Now, don't go forgetting where your list is now! That's the worst. :)

  2. Girls are much more clever than boys that way. I think I had 2 different lists going and I never had to use any code because I know that my boys aren't going around the house looking for things to read. Congrats on the mixer! Hope it's a good one.
