a stacked frame collage.
Despite making a bunch of pinky promises with myself that I would be completely unpacked within a couple weeks, we had our last lone moving box sitting right there where the black alarm clock is, for a solid two months.
I kind of ran out of steam there for awhile, plus I didn't know what to do with this space. (Plus the box was full of hot rollers, and extra bags of cotton balls. No urgent needs there.)
So when I finally got that box unpacked I decided to pull out all those frames I had hanging in our last homes' entry. I really liked those, and thought about hanging them along the staircase here in our rental home, but I didn't want to put a million holes in the walls when we are so temporary. So I decided to just stack them here along the wall behind the bathtub.
I thought it might be a little too random, but I really like it!--especially since there isn't a backsplash installed here.

And here are a few practical tips for making a stacked (or hanging) collage that looks collected over time, but not too jumbled and mismatched:
1. Buy a few frames that match perfectly (in our collage, it's the silvery gold ones)
2. For the remainder of the frames choose completely different styles (some ornate, some rustic wood, some flat, some carved)
3. Paint all the mismatched frames the same color (I laid mine all on a tarp and spray painted them white)
4. I wanted my white frames to relate back to the silvery gold ones, so I rubbed a gold acrylic paint on the white ones with a washcloth. Acrylic paint wipes easily off with water within the first several minutes, so it is really easy to play with it until you get the exact amount you want.
So there you have it! (If you want a guide on hanging a collage I wrote about one method here.)
