a january bloom.

I love the simply beauty of paperwhites on these chilly January days.  They brighten my life!  And an extra bonus: they are the easiest thing in the world to grow.

This year my aunt Dorte gave me these so I didn't have to do any work for this pretty view, but for the last couple years I have been able to find them for half off at home improvement stores in these weeks following the holidays.

So plans for tomorrow include a trip to Lowe's to get some more bulbs to start, and that way I can have pretty blossoms all the way into February!  And then in February I'll hopefully be able to start forcing some fruit tree branches :)  

(Also I found this easy how-to guide in case you've never forced bulbs before.  One year we gave these as neighbor gifts for Christmas, and my one friend thought they were some sort of onion to eat.  Thankfully she asked me before she sauteed them up!)
