amish country.

pennsylvania is such a beautiful place.  we had never been there before, and we thought it was so incredibly picturesque.  so many pretty old farmhouses and barns and rock churches, with lots of winding roads with little vegetable/pumpkin stands around every corner.  it totally reminded us of the cotswalds in the english countryside.

one day we went to lancaster to see the amish communities.  my kids looove to pretend they're pioneers, so we knew they would love to see a community like this.  it did not disappoint!  horse drawn buggies.  clothes on the clotheslines fluttering in the wind.  homemade rootbeer.  antique shops with the best prices ever.

i picked up a petite antique cane seat/backed rocking chair for $8--without any bargaining!  (i am the worst bargainer in the entire universe anyway.)  i figured i could have it shipped home for less than $100 and still have a steal of a deal on my hands!  however...  the first shipping bid came back at $384.  what?!!  $536 if i had the shippers pack it.  so that, as of now, is a no go.  and when ashley and eric head home in a few weeks, they will have a "new" rocking chair waiting for them in their family room. :)  surprise!
