a perfect costume.

I don't know how it is at your house, but around here it seems like the kids begin planning what they are going to be for the next Halloween starting November 1st.

Since they have lots of great ideas that change very frequently, I usually wait until really close to Halloween to let them make their final decision.

But this year I would like to not be so last-minute, so the cut off costume decision date is this weekend!  (Drastic measures.) That will give me time to either make or buy something that is actually still in stock in their size.

When the kids were small, we used to all dress up together.  One year we were Peter Pan characters, Jimmy was Captain Hook, I was Wendy, Ashlyn was Tinkerbell and Cam was a little skunk (wasn't there a lost boy who looked like a skunk kind of?)

Another year, we were nursery rhyme characters (Jimmy and I were Hansel and Gretel, Ashlyn was Little Bo Peep and Cam was her little sheep.)  I loved doing it that way!  But now they have stronger opinions and can't be so easily persuaded...

This year Cam and Andy are set on being astronauts.  Ava really wants to be Minnie Mouse.  Ashlyn is holding out until the last possible second to make her final decision.  (See how there is nothing close to a unifying theme anymore!  So sad.)

So what I would really love is if they would each just choose an animal from this little mask and tail set.  I LOVE this idea for costumes.  It is simple, but cute.  And it makes it easy to follow this costume philosophy which I think is brilliant.
