hot cocoa in the canyon.

One crisp fall morning a couple weekends ago, we headed up Little Cottonwood Canyon to celebrate the beginning of autumn and back to school days.  I have so many great memories of having breakfasts in the canyon when I was a little girl.

Only my mom and dad actually made the breakfast.

I truly wish I enjoyed cooking more, because I sure do love eating good food.  But let's face it, at times I can be very lazy when it comes to making food (as I prefer to focus all my energies on the eating and setting-the-table part.  Noble endeavors, to be sure.)

So the lazy meal-preparer in me was pretty pleased to hear about a great restaurant up the canyon that serves brunch.  Breakfast up the canyon?  Oh my, that sounds delightful.

We had actually been wanting to try brunch at this little restaurant all summer long (we figured it could be our Utah equivalent to breakfast on the Pier in San Clemente.)   But it was pretty chilly for us at the top of the mountain--fifty degrees feels pretty cold after a summer of 90's!  So we took a nice brisk walk admiring the great outdoors--the quaking aspens and evergreens, granite faced mountains--until our table was ready.

The breakfast (belgium waffles for me!) was divine.  But the hot cocoa was even more divine.  I would not be exaggerating to say it was the best hot cocoa in the world

And doesn't it look so pretty in those tall glass mugs?  I have never thought of serving it that way.  But rest assured I will be changing my ways, starting with finding some of those tall glass mugs for myself and ending with the little sprinkling of cocoa on top of all that whip cream.

Just looking at it, is making me wish for some real autumn temperatures!  (It's been in the 90's again around here all week.)
