venice: a photo tour.

Ahhh Venice....I love being in places with layers upon layers of history.  I'm the kind of person who walks into old buildings and can't stop thinking about what the original floor plans were; where windows and walls and doorways once were; imaging all the life that has been lived between those old walls.  If walls could talk, I would be in heaven!  So Venice was totally my kind of place.

It is a beautiful, mysterious city, with narrow winding alleys with apartments, shops and restaurants tucked around every corner.  We arrived there in the late afternoon and after a smallish nap, we ventured out to explore, under the light of the silvery moon.  (If you know where that line is from, then I think you deserve to go to Venice.)

There are no cars allowed in the main part of Venice (they would never fit) so it is just filled with people wearing their sytlish italian leather boots and handbags and scarves.  I was glad I had practiced tying mine before I left!  (Thanks for the tips btw.)

I had been talking to some people a couple months ago, and they were complaining about Venice being a dirty city.  So I was pleasantly surprised.  As far as cleanliness, it seemed comparable to New York City.  We did see a  couple enormous rats by the main waterfront the first night, but whatever.  I still loved it.  The shuttered doorways, layers of peeling plaster, flowering window boxes and crooked towers.  Loved every bit.
