nafplion: a photo tour
One of the stops on our trip was to a little spot in Greece, called Nafplion. We loved wandering around the streets of this little town, eating gelato (of course) and climbing the 999 steps to the fortress overlooking the sea.
Well, I don't know if 'loved' would be the right verb for climbing all those steps. But I did love the view from the top. It was breathtaking.

These shuttered doorways throughout Greece, Croatia and Italy were one of my favorite things. Every entrance to a store, hotel or apartment has these doors (i guess they're really not shutters). When they are open for business, these doors are open. Right inside them is a little, sort of tiled entryway sometimes with a couple more steps, that leads to another set of doors that actually go into the store or building.
It just seems so nice and cozy and secure with your front door being closed off like this from the public areas of the city.
The rocks on this beach were beautiful--polished marble stones. I talked Jimmy into carrying a little stash back for me. A couple weeks ago my grandpa was over and reminiscing about how much grandma loved pretty rocks and how they had to haul these pretty pieces of sandstone they found, all around the country, every time they moved. He and Jimmy were laughing about how crazy girls can be about their pretty rocks. Whatever. I totally get you grandma.
Isn't this the coolest tree you've ever seen. I would really love a tree with yellow pom pom flowers on it. I wonder what they are.... Elle?
