a delightful day.

Oh delightful spring days, how I love you!  On this particularly beautiful Sunday, Jimmy made us a late breakfast of waffles and blueberries. (delightful)  After we did the dishes and bathed all the kids, I had a lukewarm--because of all the previously mentioned hot water usage--shower. (not delightful)

We headed to our favorite little spot in the city to go for a walk along a little gurgling stream. (delightful) After church, where I taught a lesson to my delightful laurel class (the 16-18 year old girls) about the happy blessings of the temple, we drove home and changed out of our sunday dresses and ties and broke out the chalk. (very delightful)

In the middle of making dinner, I stuck my head out the door to see what the kids were up to.  They were making a roadway and parking lot for their bikes and go carts.  It looked so fun, I decided to postpone the dinner-making and join them for awhile, making colorful footprints leading to the front path.  We would trace Ava's feet as she walked to the path, and then go back and color them all in.  It was some good fun.

Why is it that we spend so much money on loud, obnoxious, plastic toys when they are so perfectly content with a $2.00 pack of playdoh or a $4.00 package of colorful chalk?  I tell you, simple, inexpensive toys really are the best.

And honestly, what will I do when my kids are all grown up and I have no more excuses to be buying (and using) large buckets of pointy colorful chalk and new cartons of playdoh?!  I'm sure it probably will be, but I just can't imagine that life will be as delightful as it is right now.  Although on the up side, I probably will be getting those long hot showers that can be so illusive at the present moment.
