pillows+pillows+pillows.
Ava's room is beginning it's transformation from nursery to big girl room. Andy, Ava and I had lots of fun hunting for some perfect things to get it started last week. We started with this "damaged" upper bunk bed that was sitting in Jimmy's warehouse--it had some minor scratches that we quickly repaired with a black sharpie! I tell you, black sharpies are the most useful tool in my toolbox.
The legs looked abnormally tall since it was meant to be an upper bunk bed--and since I was envisioning more of a french salon daybed look than a gangly preteen--we shortened the legs quite a bit. Now it is just the right height for a little girl, learning to sleep in a big girl bed. In other words, when she falls out, she's not going to get hurt--or probably even wake up! (We may have cut them just a wee bit too short...)
Ava's favorite color is still pink, but we are adding a little more red and turquoise to her new look. We bought piles of pillows (all on clearance--the polka dot sham was only $5.00! and you can only imagine the giddiness that I had to contain about that one.) and raided my fabric stash to come up with this. I haven't made all the pillows yet, so that's why the fabric is just draped around a couple of them. We found the darling handstitched quilt at my favorite consignment store (it's a queen size so we will have to retrofit it a bit) and also an adorable footstool and trash pail that I will show you after they are cleaned up.
Next up is repainting a small table turquoise, retrofitting a large picture frame into a display piece for over the bed, and recovering that little footstool and a charming chair that belonged to Jimmy's grandma. Girls rooms are my very, very favorite.
