happy october and other stuff

Happy autumn to you. Doesn't this garland look so fun--although I think it would be fraught with martha-project-making-nightmares (like the gourd juices and insides getting all over everything and how would you string the twine through?)--but nevertheless, very cute. I would like to string a couple across the ceiling above my kitchen table, with some strands of clear globe lights mixed in too. I love putting fall decorations around the house each October and today was my day to do it. But it was not meant to be as me and the kids have been recovering from the flu (second time in three weeks). However am I so lucky? I don't know. But I DO know that I received an email saying that the bird flu is only one mutation away from reaching humans. ONE mutation people. What if that happens? I'm doomed. Which leads me to: what are your feelings on the flu shot? As refreshing as laying on the cold tile on my bathroom floor can be, I would prefer not to do it twice in three weeks. I have never really believed in the flu shot, but I think I'm going to give it a whirl this year. Also if you have any tips on boosting the immune system please share. In the meantime I'm going to be sprouting wheat kernels and feeding them to myself and the children with every meal. I've heard those are superb for the immune system. . .
