ava's little pink room.
The other evening, ava's room was all tidy and picked up and the sun was shining through her window so beautifully that I decided to take a few pictures. We've been thinking it's getting about time to move her out of her crib (I would totally do it tomorrow, if I knew I could still have a guaranteed nap during nap time.) So anyway, I figure her room will be changing a little bit soon, and I want to have a record of how it was during her littlest years.
The crib Jim's dad made for us when we were expecting Andy and the rocking chair Jimmy surprised me with a few weeks before Ashlyn was born. We had zero extra money, so he found a woodworking shop that sold it to him unassembled and he secretly put it together in the garage and even tied a huge crooked bow on it :). What a babe. The dresser was mine as a little girl, so it needed a fresh coat of paint. I decided to repaint it black and put new old looking knobs on, but kept the Holly Hobbie contact paper in the drawers!
I fell in love with this little chandelier the moment I saw it. My sweet friend Carrie embellished the shades for me as a baby gift to Ava. She also made my sketches for the curtains come to life.
The inspiration for the room came from a set of DKNY sheets I found on clearance at TJ Maxx. I was able to make two crib sheets, two changing table covers and a bedskirt out of them. Oh and the curtains too! For only $29.00! That kind of stuff makes me giddy. The tiny frame on the wall is from my grandma. Inside is a little pink flower she crocheted.
This is a super easy little project for a childrens room. I just drew a little lamb shape, cut it out, pasted it to some cute paper and put it in a cute frame.
a doll I purchased at our first Piper & Chloe showcase. the shape of her hair totally reminds me of ava's when she was about one. (this was also made by my friend Carrie)
I asked Jimmy to make some wood blocks with holes in them for me one Christmas, so he made me a nice little stack. I painted them a creamy white and cut letters out from the toile fabric I used on her bumper.
the gown she wore on her blessing day, made by my very talented mama. we bought this thai silk on a trip we took together up to the garment district in LA.
This table was also painted by my mom and given to her for her first birthday. She loved it at first sight and has spent a lot of time playing puzzles and looking at storybooks here. Lately she has been saying "Mommy hurry come to my pink office." And I'll go in her room, and she is sitting here in the chair with Ashlyn's pink barbie laptop on top of the table. One of my favorite things about this little set is her name painted on the back of the chair.
So there it is. Ava's little pink room. I wonder if she would have been a pink girly girl anyway or if she was totally shaped by her environment :)
