teach me mommy: strawberries

DSC_4790

Last year we bought a small flat of strawberries to use as a sort of ground cover on our rock wall. And just let me tell you, they spread like CRAZY! Not that I mind at all. But I do mind that some little creature keeps nibbling at them right when they get perfectly red and ripe. I think it might be the squirrels, or maybe the birds? So if you happen to know any tricks to keep the little buggers away, please tell.

Anyway, when Andy came in with a handful of strawberries this morning, I decided teach me mommy school should be on strawberries.

and here's all the details:
read The Big Hungry Bear by Don & Audrey Wood
discussed characteristics of fruits and vegetables & played some sorting games with fruit & vegetable toys we have
went for a walk around the yard and looked at all the fruit & vegetable plants (some grow on trees, some on vines, some in the ground, etc.)
painted a strawberry & glued on "seeds" (wheat kernels)
ate some ice cream with fresh sliced strawberries from our little strawberry patch

Then I came upstairs and saw that I had sold three things from my etsy shop which made my heart smile! And then I went and got dressed. Never mind that it was 3:00 p.m. Better late than never is the philosophy I live by. Plus my pajama pants are really cute.
