a pup named socks
Andy's biggest wish of all time is to get a puppy. He started asking for one when Ava was a little baby, and I said: Oh, well when Ava is potty-trained, then maybe we can get a puppy. And really I never intended on making good on this little promise--thinking I could get away with it because he was two and would forget. Well. He's never forgotten and at least once a week since then he asks if we can teach Ava to go potty. So this year for Christmas I gave the boys my awesome version of a puppy. Because still I am not sure if I can make good on this promise. I mean puppies are adorable. And Andy and a puppy would be almost more adorable than I could take. But then they grow up to be slobbery, digging, pooping-every-where dogs. So I don't know.
So, in the meantime sock dogs it is. And I thank my very good friend who taught me how to make them--which are loosely based on the patterns from this book. All you need is a pair of good quality socks and about five hours. And some batting. And some embroidery floss. . . and a patient friend. Just look at that good little puppy. I just love handmade (but sometimes my kids don't appreciate it like I do. Cam asked for a "not-old-fashioned-race-track" this year). So it seriously warms my heart that Andy & Cam love them so much that they sleep with them every night!
