a backyard summer party

a highly anticipated annual favorite: grandma's summer party!

this years fun included:

lots of fresh mint lemonade

little hands planting a little flower patch

games on the front lawn

a paper bag picnic lunch 

homemade ice cream sandwiches

acting out the little gingerbread man from one of my favorite childhood books

i have a very vivid memory of coloring in that book ashlyn is holding when i was 4 years old, which is not actually a coloring book... i remember sitting on the floor of my bedroom in san diego next to my book shelves, looking for a coloring book. when i couldn't find one, i decided that this storybook would work just as well.

i also remember looking through this book, page by page, thinking "oh i can't wait until i can read all these words!"  although it is very worn and tattered now, i'm so glad my mom has kept it all these years.
