a little corn husking.

All summer long we love eating produce straight from the garden. There is something so magical about eating something you have watched sprout from the earth. And I especially love seeing all of these little hands husk the corn in the evening sunlight, so intent on getting all the wispy strands of corn silk off. They will drop whatever they are doing--riding scooters, building forts, illustrating littlest pet shop magazines, hanging on my leg and whining--and come running when I say, "Who wants to husk the corn tonight?" I think this may have been our last husking of the season, so I thought I would capture their cute little hands. I can't help but wonder how much longer I've got before they aren't so excited about that anymore.

And although our garden is pretty little, this year we had a bumper crop of grapes, plums, a handful of apples and our pear trees are loaded. Although I am still perplexed about pears--do they ever ripen on their own?
