a day wherein andy learns to stand in a line.

It seems to me that lining up is the single most important aspect of early elementary schooldom? (I don't know if schooldom is really a word, but it just feels right to me. . . you say it like kingdom.)

Occasionally I'll implement the line-up at home, and it works like a charm. As in "when you've gone potty and put on your shoes, go line-up in the mudroom." You cannot imagine how quickly those little feet are stuffed into shoes when the tantalizing prize of being FIRST IN LINE is a possiblity. Of course, there is typically an ensuing scream and scuffle when Ava & Andy both believe the coveted spot rightly belongs to them. But by then we are out the door and on our way. (Because waiting in line too long can breed all sorts of unwanted behaviors.)

And I can't believe those little feet are now ready to begin school. I love the nervous little tilt of his left foot. I do that too when I'm nervous. How I love this little boy.
