Ferocious|Fun|Four

I've been told I'm crazy, but I DO love planning birthday parties! Speaking of crazy, our crazy little man Andrew turned four a few weeks ago and what could be more appropriate than a ferocious, fearsome dinosaur party? (Those interpretations of dinosaur faces just crack me up!)

My birthday party ideas almost always revolve around the cake. Yes, it is true, much of my life and thoughts revolve around food. So, NATURALLY this is a good jump-off point. . . Typically I'll find a few cakes that seem fairly easy and let them choose their favorite. Luckily, thus far they have loved my ideas. How will I cope when I am not the coolest person they know?!
However, my favorite part of planning the birthday is making the invitations. The birthday boy or girl gets to stay up "late" and help me make them and boy, do we have a good time! We got this year's inspiration from the drawings in How Do Dinosaurs Count to 10? By the way, if you want a recommendation on children's books, the How Do Dinosaurs books are very popular around here!

andrew's dinosaur party checklist:

•invitations|addressed to guest's name + "osauras", so Ella is Ellasouras
•cake
•decorations|brown & green balloons & crepe paper|play dinosaurs placed around (we have quite a collection here & the kids had FUN setting them up all over the downstairs|brown craft paper covering table with cool wrapping paper strip down the center
•games|hatch the dinosaur egg (balloon with little surprises inside like chapstick, stickers, treats--they helped hatch it with their dinosaur horn (party hat)|digging for fossil eggs (we filled up our sandbox with balloons (if it were warmer we would have used sand) and hid plastic easter eggs filled with surprises
•party favor|each child got a polka dot green bag to put all their prizes they gathered from the games, tied with twine and a little wooden dinosaur from the craft store

I love this little boy . . .

  4. this is probably the most random blog comment ever, but i just wanted to thank you for your mention of my blog (a room somewhere) and to tell you about a creature your little andrew might enjoy. it's a prehistoric beast called an "Andrewsarchus" (andrew-sar-Kus). my kids love stuff like that and we always thought it would be fun to have a prehistoric creature named after you!
