wise old owl
Owls and autumn seem to go hand in hand. So that is what I decided to do for teach me mommy school today. And this is how we did it:
•Read Eric Carle's Panda Bear Panda Bear What Do You See? Andy was instructed to give his dear mother a big hug and kiss every time we got to a page with a bird on it. Which he happily and vigorously did. Talked about characteristics of owls compared to other birds. (owls have BIG eyes, stay awake at night, eat animals instead of seeds, say whoo whoo and so on.)
•Jimmy happened to be home during teach me mommy school and showed Andy where he had seen an owl sitting in our backyard one night and told him what it looked like.
•Read him an owl poem and talked about why the owl was so smart to listen so well and discussed some places we could listen really well, just like an owl (topping the list, of course, was listening to ME. . .ever the self interested mother.)
•Colored the owl picture and glued some bean feathers on. What? You didn't know owls feathers were beans? Well now you do.•Ate an owl snack made from ritz crackers (what else), peanut butter, peanut beak, chocolate chip eyes
•Flew around like an owl looking for yummy little mice to eat and screeching whoo whoo. Hopefully no one on the block was trying for a nap because he's really not a very quiet owl.
